Effective interpersonal communication is always about creating a connection or creating a so-called report. This is by no means an automatic consequence of communication, in fact we as humans have to work hard to achieve this.

It is therefore not without reason that this is seen as a crucial building block of successful and effective contact. It is therefore completely dependent on your character, personality and related communication style whether you have a natural flair in this or not.

This fascinating theme is connected to the concept of Emotional Intelligence. People with a naturally high degree of emotional Intelligence (also called EQ or Emotional Quotient) have a higher dose of empathy (driven by a high degree of self-knowledge, self-awareness, self-management, empathy, social awareness and flexibility).

This means that it will take these people less effort to sense the impact of their communication style on others and to adapt (empathize) to the communication style of others. This is called creating a connection or report.

This is the essence of DiSC, a fantastic tool with which you can actually sharpen your EQ a bit by being more conscious with recognizing your own communication style (self-awareness) and that of someone else (empathy).
